In today’s article, I’ll be showing you step by step how you can actually start making money with AdSense—from a complete beginner to an expert. I’ll take you through the best methods to get started, and at the end of this article, I actually have a method that’s going to help you make money even faster. So, let’s jump into this today.

I’m super excited for this because we haven’t actually done content on this for a very long time. I’m going to take you through everything you need to know so you can start making money with AdSense today because it is one of the best beginner-friendly ways to make money online. So, let’s get started, and I’ll show you exactly what you need to do.

What is AdSense?

Before we jump into this, we first need to understand what AdSense is and how it works. It’s been around for a while, but there are still a lot of people who don’t really understand the concept or how much money you can actually make from this.

Let me show you what I’ve been spending on AdSense on one of my accounts with Google Ads. Just in the last day, I’ve spent one, two, three, four, five, six—six thousand dollars in one day on Google Ads. But that’s only one of my credit cards. I have over 30 credit cards where I spend money on Facebook Ads and Google Ads.

What does this mean? It means people like me are spending money on advertising, and you can get a piece of the pie. I’m just spending six thousand dollars a day, but companies like Coca-Cola and other huge corporations are spending millions per year on advertising.

What happens is, I run an ad to people online, which shows up on websites. The person who owns that website gets paid because they had the ad on their site, and Google also makes money. That’s how Google makes their money—via advertising.

If I spent six thousand dollars in one day (and even more on other credit cards), someone is getting a piece of that pie. For example, if you see ads on a website and people click on them, the website owner makes money.

Step 1: Choose a Niche

The first step is simple: choose a niche to dive into. I’ve found a really cool website called “Discover a Hobby” that lists hundreds of hobbies you can base your content around. For example, under “Performing Arts,” there’s ballet, dancing, breakdancing, juggling, acting, and more.

If you’re new and unsure what niche to pick, just Google “best niche website ideas,” and you’ll find plenty of inspiration. Some experts, like IncomeSchool.com, share great niche ideas and even make seven figures per year with their AdSense websites.

When choosing a niche, use a free tool like Ubersuggest to research keywords. For example, I searched “woodworking projects” and “basketball drills.” The tool shows keyword difficulty—green means easy to rank for, while yellow or red means harder. You want to target keywords with a cost-per-click (CPC), meaning advertisers are paying for those clicks.

Step 2: Start a Simple Website

Next, start a simple website. You’ll need a host, which costs around $2–$3 per month. Just Google “best web hosting services,” and you’ll find options. Once your site is set up, upload a theme. I recommend two: “Schema” (free) or a premium theme from Income School designed for AdSense sites.

Content is crucial. Your articles should be 1,200–2,000 words long, easy to read, informative, and engaging. The more people scroll and stay on your site, the better signals it sends to Google.

For example, one of my websites covers fishing licenses in Vegas. We provide all the information people need, like prices and requirements. Right now, we don’t have AdSense ads on it because we’re focusing on affiliate marketing, but we could make around $40,000 per year if we added them.

Step 3: Use Google AdSense Calculator

To estimate earnings, use the Google AdSense calculator. For example, in the “hobbies and leisure” niche, 50,000 monthly views could earn around $6,000 per year. This isn’t exact, but it gives you an idea.

Content Strategy

Your titles and topics matter. For example:

  • “17 Fun Basketball Drills for Beginners in 2024”
  • “9 Unique Woodworking Projects You Can Do at Home”

Volume is key. Some of my sites have 300–500 articles. More content means more traffic over time.

Initial Traffic Boost

When starting, get an initial traffic boost by using Pinterest. Create a Pinterest page for your niche and pin content linking back to your site. This sends traffic and creates backlinks, which help with Google rankings.

Alternative: YouTube

If you don’t want to build a website, start a YouTube channel. It’s the fastest way to earn AdSense revenue. For example, my channel makes around $300 per day.

Final Thoughts

These are the basic steps to start an AdSense website:

  1. Choose a niche.
  2. Start a simple website with good content.
  3. Use tools like Ubersuggest and the AdSense calculator.
  4. Boost traffic with Pinterest or YouTube.
